Science Olympiad Foundation
SOF is an Educational Organization popularizing academic competition and assisting the development of competitive spirit among school children.
SOF was established by leading academicians, scientists, and media personalities with the aim of promoting Science, Mathematics, Computer Education, English, Social Studies, General Knowledge, and professional courses. Science Olympiad Foundation has been striving for close to 25 years to promote scientific attitude and temperament through innovative activities and the use of IT in the learning processes that involve school students across the globe.
In the present times when the world is totally pivoted on science and IT, it is pertinent to think and plan about the future – a future in which the children of the present shall be the leaders of tomorrow. Regular qualitative and quantitative assessment needs to be done at the national/international level in order to build up the scientific, commercial, and IT talent pool. It is in this sphere that the role of SOF has been much appreciated over these last many years, so much so that The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, through The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and many highly reputed organizations like The British Council, Star Sports, Techfest IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, National University of Singapore & TCS, etc have volunteered to partner and support SOF’s various programs.
SOF’s integrity and commitment towards the fulfillment of its objectives have been lauded by the team of thousands of schooling institutions spread across the globe and millions of students who have directly benefited from its educative, informative, and evaluative programs. SOF MISSION
The key to having a large, exclusive scientific and IT talent pool for the future is seeking out, identifying young geniuses and providing them with a unique competitive platform where they can prove themselves.
To further this cause SOF endeavors to:

- Project SOF as a Centre of Excellence that could cater to different schooling institutions in the areas of methodical research, new educational tools, special publications, and expert advice.
SPHERE OF ACTIVITIES
All activities of the Foundation invariably aim at making learning an interesting and interactive process in which the learner is actually able to put his / her skills, memory, talent and knowledge to test.
For this, the Foundation conducts workshops, seminars and science/IT, humanities competitions for students of different classes and age groups.
The foundation conducts the following Olympiads:

- SOF International Mathematics Olympiad

National Science Olympiad
The science tournament, branded as SOF NSO (National Science Olympiad), is a rigorous academic and scholastic aptitude competition. The event encompasses various science disciplines, namely, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Registration of Students:
The SOF NSO is open to the students of classes 1 to 12. Prospectus containing the Registration forms are sent to all schools registered with SOF. Schools not registered may also request for prospectus by sending an e-mail at info@sofworld.org / phone call. Schools must return the registration forms to SOF, duly filled in and complete in all respects by the due date.
Roll Numbers:
The school’s coordinating teacher should fill the School Registration Form (SRF) and Students’ Registration Sheet (SRS) as per the guidelines given & should send to the SOF’s office before the due date of submission of forms. SOF will register the applicant school and the students. As per the Students’ Registration Sheet (SRS) received from the School, SOF will generate roll numbers for all students.
Foundation will register the applicant school and the students and dispatch question papers and guidelines for conducting the examination. Principals/teachers may please note that any school can be registered as a center for SOF NSO. No fee is required from the institution to become a registered examination centre. A minimum of 10 students need to be registered from each school for SOF NSO.
The SOF NSO is conducted on 3 dates for Level 1. Each school may select a date for conducting the SOF NSO as per its convenience. Each date of exam has a separate question paper. Change of date for conducting the SOF NSO is not permitted.
Students should register through their respective schools. Individual registrations by students are not accepted.
Registration Fee:
Schools in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan & Nepal pay to SOF a registration fee of Rs 125* (including GST) per student / Olympiad towards cost of examination. Schools may charge an additional Rs 25** per student towards honorarium of incharge, remuneration to teachers to teach and guide, and for other expenses. No fee is payable for students suffering from any major physical disability, or an Indian student whose parent was martyred during defence operations.

**US$1 for other countries.The SOF National Science Olympiad is conducted at two levels:
Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.
(i) The level 1 competition is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only schools that have registered with the SOF are eligible to apply for NSO. Schools must select any exam date that is convenient for them and register for it 30 days prior to the exam day. Students can sign up for the SOF NSO test through their schools. The SOF NSO test requires a minimum of 10 students from each institution to enrol.
- NSO examinations are only open to students in grades 1 to 12.
- Science is a required topic in which the candidate has a strong interest.
- Boards – The NSO test is only open to students who are enrolled in CBSE, ICSE, or a state board.
- Year of Attempt – A student can apply for the NSO test if he or she is enrolled in any of the classes from 1 to 12.
- Number of Attempts – Students can only apply for the NSO test once, in each academic year.
Level 1 NSO Exam Eligibility
For Level 1, there are no explicit NSO test qualifying requirements. The level 1 Olympiad test is open to students in grades 1 to 12. There are no minimum grades that students must achieve in their academics.
Level 2 NSO Exam Eligibility
The Olympiad test level 2 is only open to students who did well in level 1. The Olympiad examinations are open to the students listed below.
- The top 5% of students in each class who took the Level 1 test are qualified to take the Level 2 exam.
- The top 25 scorers in each zone who took the Level 1 test are qualified to take the Level 2 exam.
- Each participating school has a minimum of ten rank-holders who took tests and received 50 per cent qualifying marks.
- If students register section by section, students who obtain the highest marks in each subject will be qualified to take the NSO Level 2 test. Students who win gold medals in section-wise registration may or may not be eligible for second-level Olympiad tests.
- NSO Level 2 examinations are not open to students in Classes 1 and 2. Only the results of the Level 1 tests are used to evaluate their performance.
